…the Centre of Excellence Vision Centre has been launched in Papua New Guinea!
“Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.” – Psalm 95:2
Because of generous gifts from people like you, great progress has been made in establish a new eye centre in Goroka, Papua New Guinea, called the ‘Centre of Excellence Vision Centre’.
Last year an agreement was signed between cbm (Christian Blind Mission New Zealand), Onesight Essilor Luyottica Foundation (OSELF, Wayne Tennent, who were all instrumental in helping to open the new Vision Centre. Something they worked very hard to establish for the benefit of the people of the Eastern Highlands.
Chief Executive Officer of cbm’s partner EHPH, Dr. Joseph Apa expressed this gratefulness to cbm, it’s partners, and to faithful people like you, who have generously given to help deliver quality eye health services, which will go a long way to serving the needs of the people in PNG.
“I am so grateful for this new Vision Centre, which will be able to operate sustainably going forward. And after close to forty years of partnership with cbm, it is this valued partnership that has brought us this far in serving our people’s eye health needs. It is the fruit of many faithful years of partnership, and together we are proud to deliver improved eye health services to the people of the province and referrals from other parts of the country – who will all greatly benefit from this Vision Centre and Eye Unit.” Dr. Apa said.
The Vision Centre is complementing the inclusive education programme of cbm and serving adults and students to correct vision impairment so they can access education and employment. Evelyn (photo left) has severe low vision but with the high powered glasses she received from the Vision Centre she is able to progress learning at school.
A special thanks also goes to all the dedicated cbm Eye Champions. Thank you for your regular gifts to help reduce avoidable blindness in Papua New Guinea. Your gifts continue to be multiplied x5 by the New Zealand Government Aid Programme, and have also contributed to the funding of the new Vision Centre.
